Frequently asked questions

What is fossil wood?
It is ancient wood dating back more than 5,000 years, as confirmed by carbon-14 dating. It is found mainly in the peat bogs of Ireland and Ukraine, where the acidic environment and lack of oxygen have preserved entire forests beneath the peat, and it is obtained without felling any trees.
Which woods do you use?
We use Italian olive wood, walnut, briar from the Calabrian highlands, seasoned for several years, and fossil wood. The Vitis Vinifera fountain pen, on the other hand, is made from the seasoned wood of a prosecco vine.
How is the wood finished?
We avoid lacquering and polish the wood with beeswax, which allows it to keep its natural character. The grain, such as that of olive wood, varies from piece to piece and makes every pen unique.
May I place the cap on the end of the pen while writing?
On wooden pens it is better to avoid this, as barrels made of natural materials such as wood could be damaged when the cap is placed on them. On pens with a silver barrel, however, this can be done without any risk.
